Hi there! i'm Shauna
I Did Everything ‘Right’. Then Life Happened.
I went to university, earned my professional designation, and landed a great corporate job I loved. Promotions, pay raises, and bigger responsibilities all pointed to a promising path ahead. Then, I became a mom—and everything changed.
Returning to the office wasn’t as straightforward as I’d expected. The pressure to come back early was intense and when I declined, I could feel the shift—my political capital evaporating.
A New Path Forward
Before having kids, I hadn’t spent much time considering how my values might evolve or what I’d do if my job no longer aligned with my priorities. Motherhood made my life incompatible with my corporate role, and I was left without a clear path forward. So, I created one.
I founded HireDiverse.ca because I want to be part of a solution that moves us toward a more equitable working world. As a mixed-race woman, I’ve seen and experienced biases firsthand. And as a Human Resources professional, I’ve witnessed my fair share of questionable comments from hiring managers behind the scenes.
I knew then that I needed to build something better—something that prioritizes diversity and inclusion in every aspect of hiring, not just as an afterthought. That’s why I believe in HireDiverse.
